The following is provided on how to proceed with having your ideas turned into products by Lasermark.
First and foremost the most important part of the process is the file. The quality of any laser job at the end of the day will only reflect the quality of the file.
What you are going to require is a file in a vector-based format. This means it is a line file that can easily be scaled to any size while retaining perfect quality. Files we can use are EPS, PDF, DXF as well as CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator. If you have had no experience with vector software packages before then our advice is to draw your ideas out on paper first, then call in to see us and we can help you convert the idea into a vector format.
However, if you prefer you can download free trial software from CorelDraw and have a go yourself. One thing to keep in mind is that all the lines that you draw must join up. Please do not embed a JPEG (picture files) into your vector file as these files cannot be read by the laser. Same goes for scanned images. Scans are ‘bitmap’ images, which mean they are made up of thousands of tiny dots. When our eyes see the dots, we see an image. But the laser sees a rectangle with all the dots.
Once you have a file send it through to Lasermark along with instructions regarding materials. You can choose from a range of wood, MDF, acrylic, felt or cardboard. Acrylic comes in a range of colours, namely blue, orange, red, grey, and yellow, fluro orange, fluro green and fluro pink. Coloured acrylic only comes in 3.5mm thickness, whereas white, black and opal acrylic comes in a range of thicknesses.
You will need to keep your work within 800mm x 450mm as this represents the size of our laser bed.
We will look at the file and contact you if necessary to talk through any changes that we think will enhance your work or improve on the file to make it go through the laser quicker thus saving you money. After that you can expect to receive your work within five business days.
When you have the cut parts in your hands, you will probably see there are areas where you can improve on the design. If this is so go back to your files and make the necessary tweaks to perfect the design. Forward the revised files through to Lasermark and we will cut out the parts again, but this time without any additional set up charges. For further details see our pricing model page.
